Ethical Luxury

Grand Tournai is wool and sisal, and soft underfoot.
Amid Privilege is one of my favorite blogs. Lisa, Amid Privilege's author, is a great writer and I'm sure she has a book or two in her future. She writes with elegance and conviction on every topic she takes up. Her garden, flared jeans, fashion, style, culture, decor, the occasional DIY project. Now and then Lisa focuses her laser logic on thought-provoking matters, like Ethical Luxury.

Merida's Crosspoint Collection

Lisa recently posted on Ethical Luxury and how it fit in with her quest for a new guest room rug. Her definition is honest, straightforward. Personal.

"I want to align a love of luxury I cannot relinquish with my belief that humankind can get better if we just try."
Lisa, author of Amid Privilege

I'm thrilled to have had a small part in assisting Lisa in her pursuit of Ethical Luxury by providing beautiful and ethical rug options from Merida for her guest room project.

Some of the Merida rug samples I sent Lisa. Having several options is always a good design strategy.

Lisa was a joy to work with and I am so pleased a Merida rug was her final choice. Merida cares about sourcing, the integrity of materials, the supply chain, and the makers. Read Merida's story and check out Merida's portfolio of beautiful designs.

While many Merida rugs are made here in Massachusetts, their jute products are GoodWeave certified.

GoodWeave is the international nonprofit working to end child labor in the rug industry. Their founder, Kailash Satyarthi, won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. GoodWeave for a good cause.

  1. Linda, it was a real joy to have your ideas, guidance, and direction in choosing the rug. I would have made a million expensive mistakes without you. The Merida pieces are really special - so subtle and yet so clearly luxurious. I was so happy to find a way to support my values and my love of the beautiful, in the same action. Thank you again, so much.

  2. Zero child labor. Yeah, I can get on board with that. Lovely pieces, Linda, and important that we all take these things into consideration in all of our purchases.
