Snakes, why'd it have to be snakes?

Breaking news! This just in, a special supplement to "The Rose Report".

Monster snake invades garden!
Gardener traumatized!

see the snake in the lower right? heading towards my rose?

Look, it is raising its head to strike at me! it is huge, at least 36" long.
I didn't realize how miserable this little patch of garden looks.
Might be a good spot for geraniums. A project for after the reptile leaves.

Neighbors came to the gardener's aide but were unable to catch the serpent. To the gardener's distress, they chased it behind the big arbor vitae where it will no doubt rest up to attack again.

Walking backwards out of the garden, one of the neighbors advised, "remember, he's more afraid of you than you are of him."

It was impossible to ascertain the serpent's emotional state, and everyone retreated to a safe distance. The gardener recovered her composure after a therapeutic cup of tea but would not commit to a return to the garden that afternoon.

Thanks for reading,

Oh DEAR...I side with Indiana Jones; I cannot deal with snakes. That is no garter snake either. What is your plan? I think he's not just passing through-- maybe he lives beneath Will To Live?? Moose eating my trees=frustrating. Bear in my garbage=nerve-wracking. Dead critters on my doormat=commonplace. SNAKE IN MY GARDEN=UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!! No can do.

  3. Hmmm. I am never around the critters when it counts. But when I am stranded alone, I am attacked by the only two creepies I can't stand. Snakes, for me, are no big deal. As long as it's not a spider or a centipede, that's all I care about. Did you notice if its eyes were cat-eyed or round-pupil? That makes all the difference...

  4. Meg, I didn't get close enough to look him in the eye. But I think they were round.

  5. Wowee. It was a biggie. And they're not all THAT friendly. They spray. And bite. It's a Milk snake, right? They're non-poisonous (the round eyed ones almost, if not always, are) but I bet they pinch pretty bad when they get you with the bite. Plus, who wants to stink like snake musk? Leave it to the professional animal relocators.
